London Girls
When I moved to London in 1987, I started to paint a series of paintings based on the sketches of girls I made. Some were close friends, others fleeting acquaintances. The bold lines of the original sketch would be filled with bright colours, often against highly patterned backgrounds. All were painted in acrylic because of the cramped conditions in which I was living at the time. When I had 20 pictures, I staged my first exhibition at The Jill Drey Gallery in Chelsea.
